Throughout each year, Trident asks our Swimmer Scholar graduates to come back and talk about their experiences at college. During this year's end-of-year party at Pier i Cafe on the Hudson River, three graduates came and spoke.
Yaya Toure talked about his freshman year at SUNY New Paltz and how he became ineligible for the swim team for a quarter when he lost focus on his grades - and then spoke about how he refocused and remembered everything Trident had taught him to get his grades up so he could swim again next year. Jeffrey Mena spoke about his graduation from Binghamton University as an Electrical Engineer, and how Trident's discipline enabled him to succeed in such a tough environment throughout his college career. Finally, Andres Rodriguez spoke about his first year at SUNY Potsdam, swimming on the team, and how important studying every day had been for him. It was a great end of our 8th year in NYC and always wonderful to see graduates from different years come back! Big thanks to Lee Berman and Co-founder Kristin Gary for putting together a great event, and coaches Rob Garcia and Olga Kolvalkova and teacher Bethany Webber for doing such a great job with the kids this year! Finally, thank you to Aquatics Director Ray Miller for steering the swim program in his first year with Trident - the results were incredible!
