Executive Director, West Coast - Orion Young
Orion began his swimming career at 13 with Team Santa Monica in Los Angeles, CA. At 17, he qualified for nationals in the 50 and 100 Freestyle. He attended the University of Edinburgh, where he swam all four years and graduated with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences. In 2015, Orion qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials. It was during this time that he began coaching the Trident Swim Foundation's Swimmer Scholar program in Inglewood and the Playa Vista Master's Team. Orion is currently serving as the Head Coach and Program Director for Trident's programs in Los Angeles.
Orion credits his swimming experience with helping him develop steady health habits, social-emotional growth, and critical life skills. He believes all children, regardless of income or area code, should have access to the same opportunities to play, exercise, and reap the benefits of competitive team environments. Although swimming remains his primary leisure activity, Orion also enjoys spending time in the wilderness of his hometown in Southeast Alaska. |
