We caught up to our newest Swimmer Scholars during study hall before swim practice. They were working hard, helping each other, and learning a few new things. Study hall is a regular part of the Swimmer Scholar program - it teaches discipline and good study skills, giving them the tools to succeed in high school and college.
We were very excited to have our Prospect Heights and Washington Heights programs come together for the first time to visit Columbia University. Swimmer Scholars from both programs started out by watching Columbia defeat Yale in swimming, toured campus, and then finished it up with pizza! Teens from all over the world, including Morocco, Senegal, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic, came together and shared their love of swimming and talked about their plans for college.
This year we launched our first girls-only PSAL swim team at the George Washington Educational Campus.
This means that the girls get to compete against other girls in NYC, not boys like they have in the past. We were also very excited for one of our Swimmer Scholars, a budding fashion designer, to design the girls' swim suits - with a great Trident in the middle!
