Developing critical writing skills is a core value for Trident because it leads to further success in college and beyond. Essay writing, fiction exercises, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development throughout the spring directly impact Summer and Fall SAT and PSAT results for sophomores and juniors.

]]>Congratulations Swim Team!http://www.tridentswimfoundation.org/announcements/2012/3/4/congratulations-swim-team.htmlExec Directors2012-03-04T21:53:53Z2012-03-04T21:53:53ZCongratulations to the GW Swim Team and Coach Garcia for ending a great PSAL High School season!  For the first time, the team made the championship heat at the A Division Champs in the 200-free relay, finishing 8th with Swimmer Scholars Samuel Espinal, John Castillo, Diego Reynoso, and Joshua Landau.  The same lineup also placed 10th in the 200 medley relay.  Joshua Landrau individually finished 11th in the 50 free with a time of 23.53 while anchoring the relays in a team best 22.9.  The entire team also contributed to a strong 6th place team finish at the B Division Championships a week earlier!

]]>2010-11 Swim Season Wrapuphttp://www.tridentswimfoundation.org/announcements/2011/5/16/2010-11-swim-season-wrapup.htmlExec Directors2011-05-16T15:55:17Z2011-05-16T15:55:17ZThe 2010-2011 George Washington swim season was a year of recruitment, and the team grew to a total of 35 swimmers, the largest team ever for GW.  The season was also full of break-out swims from first-time swimmers such as Joshua Landrau, Samuel Espinal, Diego Reynoso and Ledimir Nunez. Landrau emerged as the team’s leading sprinter posting times of 25.5 in the 50yd Free, and 58.0 in the 100yd Free. Samuel and Diego also went from barely being able to swim to 1:05 and 1:07 respectively in the 100yd Free. Ledimir Nunez emerged as the team’s primary Breaststroker posting a best time of 1:15 in the 100yd breast.  The regular season ended with 4 wins and 6 losses in a number of hard fought battles with higher-division teams, solidifying George Washington’s place in PSAL swimming.  Every team member improved dramatically throughout the season and we look forward to further improvement in the off-season.  We are already planning for next fall!

Thirteen swimmers qualified to compete in the post-season PSAL B Division Championship meet in Queens and five swimmers won awards. Senior Johanly Sepulveda qualified for the A-division Championship in the 100yd Backstroke with a 1:12 and he posted a time of 26.30 leading off the 200 freestyle relay. Other highlights included senior Ledimir Nunez taking 12th place in the 100yd Breaststroke, and junior Kevin Brito taking 12th place in the 100yd Butterfly.  The team placed 7th out of 28 teams, a big improvement over the 2009-2010 season!

College is the next step for our many seniors.  These are: Ledimir Nunez, Jeffrey Mena, Johanly Sepulveda, Jean Carlos Rodriguez, Cirleny Gonzalez, Amy Polanco, Stephen Pena, Stephen Holguin, German Burgos, and Osvaldo Sanchez. Upon completion of high school, all of our seniors will be attending college with destinations including Johns Hopkins University, Colgate University, Binghamton University, Stoney Brook University, Ithaca College, Utica College, St. Bonaventure, and a number of City University of New York campuses.   The seniors have shown the work ethic and dedication need to be successful both in the pool and in the classroom, and we wish them the best of luck on their next adventure!
